Yes, but only the right kind. We install stainless micro mesh guards that keep out pine needles, seeds, and grit. Cheaper plastic or foam guards tend to fail after a few freeze cycles.
Ice dams form when warm attic air melts snow at the ridge and it refreezes at the cold eave. We address both: proper attic ventilation, heated cable on at-risk eaves, and gutter / downspout sizing that handles snowmelt volume.
Yes. Half round and K style copper with soldered seams. Most copper work goes on lakefront homes and historic restorations. It's significantly more than aluminum but ages beautifully and holds up for decades.
